The airline announced yesterday that it will suspend service to and from Philadelphia as of Oct. 6.
Why did Virgin abandon the City of Brotherly Love? It's been courted by newer, bigger cities, airports, such as those in Dallas and Washington D.C., where its service is in higher demand, spokeswoman Jennifer Thomas said.
"This came down to opportunity cost, and in short, the chance to expand new service on multiple routes . . . offered a better network and revenue opportunity for our airline in the short-term," Thomas said.
Anyone with tickets booked for flights after the cutoff date will be reimbursed.
