The Boardroom: Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia names director

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia has appointed Phoebe A. Haddon, chancellor of Rutgers University-Camden, as a Class C director of its board. for a three-year term.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia has appointed Phoebe A. Haddon, chancellor of Rutgers University-Camden, as a Class C director of its board. for a three-year term. Haddon became chancellor of Rutgers University–Camden in 2014.

Previously, she had been dean of the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. Before that, she had been a faculty member at Temple University's Beasley School of Law for nearly 30-years.

She is a member of the American Bar Association's Commission on the Future of Legal Services, the CEO Council for Growth, the board of the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey, and the board of trustees for the Cooper University Health System. She also served on the board of trustees at Smith College from 1999 to 2009 and as the board's vice chair from 2004 to 2009.

Haddon graduated with a J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law, has an LL.M. (master of laws) from Yale Law School, and has a bachelor's degree from Smith College.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia helps formulate and implement monetary policy, supervises banks and bank and savings and loan holding companies, and provides financial services to depository institutions and the federal government.

District member banks elect three Class A directors which represent banking and three Class B directors to represent the public. The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System appoints three Class C directors to represent the public, including the chair and deputy chair of the board. Neither Class B nor Class C directors can be directors or officers of a bank or bank holding company, and Class C directors can not have any financial interests in such organizations.

The Moyer Foundation, a nonprofit established in 2000 by former Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer and his wife, Karen, that provides comfort, hope, and healing to children affected by grief and family addiction, has named Jeff Jubelirer, vice president of Bellevue Communications Group, to its board.

Drueding Center, a nonprofit provider of transitional housing and comprehensive support services for homeless women and their children in the South Kensington section of Philadelphia, has named Ayesha Selden to its board. She is a private-wealth adviser for Ameriprise Financial.

William M. Mitchell has been elected chairman of the Philadelphia specialty pharmaceuticals company Hemispherx Biopharma Inc. Mitchell, who has been an independent director since July 1998, is a professor of pathology, microbiology, and immunology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and is a board-certified physician.

Jamie A. Slimm, a partner in the litigation department of the law firm Archer & Greiner, has been appointed to the board of the Alice Paul Institute, a Mount Laurel nonprofit dedicated to teaching girls about leadership and equality and educating the public about New Jersey suffragist Alice Paul. Slimm concentrates her practice on complex environmental matters.

JEVS Human Services has appointed Dustin Seidman to its board. Seidman is a financial adviser and portfolio manager with Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.

Vishay Precision Group, Inc., a Malvern producer of precision sensors and systems, said it had appointed Cary Wood as an independent board member. Wood served as CEO of the Sparton Corporation from Nov. 2008 through Feb. 2016 and as president of the company from April 2009 through Feb. 2016. He began his career with General Motors Corporation then with United Technologies Corporation in a variety of roles, including general management, operations and engineering capacities.

JDog Junk Removal & Hauling, a Berwyn firm working to increase career opportunities for military veterans, has named Marine Corps Reserve Maj. Gen. James Lariviere to its Chiefs Advisory Board. Lariviere has more than 20 years of senior civilian and military experience in the Marine Corps Reserve and more than a decade of experience on Capitol Hill serving as a military legislative assistant.

Veronica M. Hagen has been appointed as an independent member of the board of the water and wastewater utility American Water Works Co. Inc., Voorhees. From 2007 until her retirement in 2013, Hagen served as president and CEO of Polymer Group Inc.

William H. Tickner, assistant vice president of Wells Fargo Bank N.A. in Malvern, has been elected vice president of the Paoli Business and Professional Association, a nonprofit organization.

Brian J. Galinat, chair of Christiana Care Health System's department of orthopaedic surgery, has been appointed to the board of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Teligent, Inc., a Buena specialty generic pharmaceutical company, has appointed Carole Ben-Maimon to its board. Ben-Maimon will also serve on the company's Compensation and Nominating Committees. She currently works as consultant to the pharmaceutical industry and has over 25-years of experience in the industry.

She has held various senior leadership positions at Impax Laboratories, Inc., Qualitest Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Alita Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Barr Pharmaceuticals, Inc., including Duramed Research Inc. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Barr Pharmaceuticals, Inc.), and with Teva Pharmaceuticals USA. She has also served on the board of Barr Pharmaceuticals.

A graduate of Thomas Jefferson Medical College, she received a Bachelor of Arts in biology from The University of Pennsylvania and completed clinical and research training in internal medicine and nephrology at Thomas Jefferson University.

Philadelphia orthopaedic surgeon Gerald R. Williams Jr. has been named president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Williams is a member of the Shoulder and Elbow Center at the Rothman Institute and is the John M. Fenlin Jr., M.D., Professor of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

The Eastern Pennsylvania Affiliate Chapter, national ACE Mentor Program, has named Nnadozie Ibeh to its board. He is associate vice president in Temple University's project delivery group.

Michael S. Bowman, president and CEO of the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board, has been appointed to the Montgomery County Development Corp. Board. The nonprofit serves as the administrator for business-loan programs offered by the county.

The Community Foundation of South Jersey, Haddonfield, has elected Mindy Holman as chair and John Connell as vice chair. Holman is chairman of the board of Holman Automotive Group and a founding member of the foundation. Connell is a partner at Archer & Greiner. Elected as secretary was Kyle Ruffin of K. Ruffin Associates and as treasurer Vaughn Schill, managing partner at Bridgers Wealth Management Inc.

Lawrence J. Lederer, a shareholder in Berger & Montague's securities and commercial litigation practice groups, has been appointed to the board of Legacy Youth Tennis and Education, a sports-based youth-development organization based in the East Falls section of Philadelphia.

The International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists, a professional association of  technicians and students who focus on the specialty practice of pharmacy compounding, has elected Anthony Grzito its board. He is director of pharmacy compliance for Wedgewood Pharmacy, Swedesboro. He is a registered pharmacist in 11 states and has been in the pharmacy profession since 1990. Prior to joining Wedgewood in 2000, he was pharmacist-in-charge and team leader for CVS Pharmacy in Oaklyn and Cherry Hill and for Eckerd Drugs, Pennsauken. He holds a B.S. degree in Pharmacy from the Rutgers University College of Pharmacy.

Attorney James P. DeAngelo has been appointed president of the board of the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network, Harrisburg, to a two-year term. He is an attorney at Harrisburg law firm McNees who is co-Chair of the firm's litigation practice group. He currently serves as president of MidPenn Legal Services and the Community Justice Project, and is a past-president of the Dauphin County Bar Association.
