Medical marijuana store slated for City Ave. retail strip

One of the city's tonier shopping strips on City Avenue will soon host a medical marijuana dispensary.
Cure Pennsylvania, which runs dispensaries in Phoenixville and Lancaster, won zoning approval last month to set up in a former Jennifer Convertible showroom at 4502 City Ave. It expects to open on the Philadelphia side of the corridor, across from Lord & Taylor, sometime in October. Cure had originally planned to operate in Fort Washington, but the costs to remediate the Montgomery County site — which was in a flood zone — had skyrocketed forcing it to relocate.
"This is a much better location with all the existing retail and parking, near a GNC and an Xfinity store," said Ryan Smith, chief operating officer of the Colorado-based cannabis chain. The shop will hold a job fair on Sept. 6. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for full and part-time patient consultants and part-time pharmacists. Additional medical cannabis stores, operated by other dispensary operators, are slated to open this fall in Philadelphia at 1125 Passyunk Ave., 12th and Sansom Streets, and 300 Packer Avenue.
