The five-county Philadelphia region saw the average price move up 2 cents to $3.80.
South Jersey was averaging a penny more at $3.63.
At the national level, the average moved up a cent to $3.79.
A year ago, the Philadelphia area was paying, on average, $3.05 a gallon; South Jersey was paying $2.88, and the national average was $3.11.
Diesel's average price went up 3 cents in the Philadelphia area to $4.71.
South Jersey's average for diesel was up 2 cents to $4.44.
At the national level, the price moved up 2 cents to average $4.48.
Light, sweet crude oil rose $1.36 to $125.48 a barrel, nearing its recent record highs, in premarket electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the Associated Press reported.
