Gasoline up for 48th day

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline rose 4 cents over the weekend to $2.69 today in southeastern Pennsylvania, and 5 cents in South Jersey to $2.51, AAA Mid-Atlantic said.

The national average rose by 3 cents over the weekend, to $2.67, and as of today 49 states have averages at or above $2.50 a gallon, the auto club said.

Gas prices in the nation have risen for 48 straight days, matching a record going back to at least the 1970s, the Associated Press reported.

Yet oil prices are taking a breather from a three-month rally, with benchmark crude for July delivery falling nearly 3 percent, or $2.07 to $69.97 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.    - Inquirer Staff
