Judge temporarily blocks work on Mariner pipeline in West Goshen

An administrative law judge granted the township's request for a temporary order blocking construction of a valve-control station for Mariner East 2 pipeline project.

West Goshen Township says Sunoco should construct a valve control station for its Mariner East 2 pipeline at this existing Sunoco facility at the intersection of Boot Road and Route 202.

An administrative law judge on Monday temporarily blocked construction of a valve-control station for the Mariner East 2 pipeline project in West Goshen Township until the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission decides whether Sunoco's work on the contested facility on Boot Road near Greenhill Road violated a 2015 agreement.

The township says the valve station should be located on Boot Road on the west side of Route 202, where Sunoco already operates a pump station for its Mariner East 1 pipeline. Sunoco said it had notified the township of plans to relocate the facility to the new location, east of Route 202, because it would be "more prudent and safe."

"We look forward to demonstrating to the Public Utility Commission how we have complied at all times with our agreement with West Goshen Township," said Jeff Shields, a spokesman for Sunoco Pipeline LP, which is trying to construct the 350-mile Mariner East project to transport gas liquids from Marcellus Shale fields in western Pennsylvania to a terminal in Marcus Hook.

David J. Brooman, an attorney for the township, was not immediately available for comment.
