Education Works receives $500K Lenfest grant for youth workforce training

The foundation's money will help support the PowerCorpsPHL initiative, a program for those ages 18 to 26.

EducationWorks, a nonprofit that provides after-school programming and workforce training for young adults, says it has received a $500,000 grant to support its PowerCorpsPHL initiative, which partners with AmeriCorps and the City of Philadelphia to train people ages 18 through 26 in environmental occupations.

In the initiative's four years, 358 PowerCorpsPHL participants have planted 6,000 trees and removed 230 tons of debris.

The grant, from the Lenfest Foundation, will support enhanced training in green infrastructure, community outreach, skilled trades, and leadership development for young people, including some who have been incarcerated.
