Pa. Banking and Securities Dept. holds free July seminars on banking, anti-fraud measures for seniors
The group will meet with senior citizens and service-provider groups this month as part of Governor Tom Wolf's Consumer Financial Protection Initiative.
Pennsylvania's Department of Banking and Securities will meet with senior citizens and service-provider groups this month as part of Governor Tom Wolf's Consumer Financial Protection Initiative.
The presentation "Banking Basics" — an overview of how banks and credit unions work, including differences among types of accounts, what to do if you have past banking issues, and questions you should ask before opening an account — will be offered at Hopewell Manor at 58 E. Main Street in Elverson (Chester County) on Friday, July 7 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The presentation is open to Hopewell Manor residents only.
For senior citizens, department staff will also present "Avoiding Scams and ID Theft" at the following locations:
• Belmont Properties at 2560 Belmont Avenue in Philadelphia on July 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (open to residents of property only)
• Inglis Gardens at Eastwick at 8000 Lyons Avenue in Philadelphia on July 19 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. (open to residents of property only)
The department will also host "Consumer Fraud Bingo" — an interactive presentation to help the elderly learn ways to protect themselves from investment fraud and other financial scams — at the following senior center locations:
• Columbia Senior Center at 510 Walnut Street in Columbia (Lancaster County) on Friday, July 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
• Elizabethtown Area Senior Center at 70 S. Poplar Street in Elizabethtown (Lancaster County) on Friday, July 21 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
