WEST CHESTER West Chester University has earned national recognition for its students' community service work, the school announced Dec. 19.

The university was named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Students logged more than 600,000 hours of volunteer work in the last academic year, the university said on its website.

"This prestigious award highlights the role West Chester University plays in meeting community needs and placing our students on a lifelong path of active citizenship," Jodi Roth-Saks, director of the Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs, said in a statement.

West Chester University offers service-learning courses that integrate community work into curriculum. Two hundred faculty members included a service component in classes in 2013-14, the school said. - Justine McDaniel
