Faulkner and Smerconish have said that they will not make a dime from the book. At the luncheon, proceeds of $170,000-plus will be donated to Justice for Police Officer Daniel Faulkner, a nonprofit that gives scholarships to the children of murder victims. (The Faulkners, married just a year, had no kids.)

I hear that a local developer with Hollywood connections is interested in taking Maureen Faulkner's story to the big screen.

Perhaps, in an ironic twist, fans of foie gras will stage a protest of their own outside Saturday's "No Foie Gras Gala," a $25-a-head fund-raiser by Hugs for Puppies and Professionals Against Foie Gras, starting at 6 p.m. at the Ethical Society on Rittenhouse Square. Since spring, Hugs has been picketing restaurants that serve foie gras, the dish made from force-fed ducks. The group is lobbying for a city ban on the delicacy. On Saturday's menu will be grilled shrimp and chicken nuggets - vegan versions, naturally. (Details:
