Weather or not they march

Eyeballing the skies and tuning into the Weather Channel is a pre-New Years tradition in Philadelphia, as the Delaware Valley anticipates the annual Mummers Parade. Will they - or won't they - march?

If the weather appears dicey - wind, snow and rain are all troublesome - a powwow takes place early Tuesday morning at the Municipal Services Building, attended by representatives from the various divisions as well as the city's managing director, recreation commissioner and the city's parade director. By 4 a.m. a decision is made and KYW 1060 AM Newsradio gets the word out.

The current forecast is for a cloudy and breezy day, with temperatures in the low 40s.

In case of bad weather, the parade will be postponed until Jan. 5. If the weather is still bad, the parade moves to Jan. 6.
