The end of the year always comes with a bittersweet quality, the joy of the holidays mixed with things coming to an end. One additional pang comes with the conclusion of guitarist/composer
"City of Philadelphia, 2008"
series. Once a month, he's presented a new composition penned for his 12-piece chamber-jazz ensemble
, each concentrating on a different population - so far, immigrants, children, drug addicts, the religious and the elderly.
The final is "City of Creation" and focuses on artists and musicians. "Everyone has a story," Davis says. But every story needs a teller, and Davis has proved ideal to spin Philly's yarns in eloquent music.
