Gary Thompson: 'Gone with the Wind' reissued in 'Scarlett Edition'

NOTHING CONTEMPORARY and worthwhile on the DVD schedule this week, but there is a highly lauded hi-def version of "Gone with the Wind."

NOTHING CONTEMPORARY and worthwhile on the DVD schedule this week, but there is a highly lauded hi-def version of "Gone with the Wind."

The so-called "Scarlett Edition" (priced roughly at $50) is a remastered copy best suited to HD Blu-ray players, but there is also a version available in standard DVD.

Each package includes gobs of bonus material, some previously issued on anniversary editions, but some new.

The new material includes a documentary about Golden Age Hollywood and what is considered by many to be its peak year, titled "Hollywood's Golden Year: 1939," narrated by Kenneth Branagh.

There's a featurette called "The Legend Lives On," featuring assembled making-of footage and interviews with stars and filmmakers.

The "Scarlett Edition" also includes this curiosity - a 1980 TV movie about the casting of the female lead called "The Scarlett Wars," starring Tony Curtis, William H. Macy and Morgan Brittany.
