Kelly Clarkson on Thursday was hit with a tsunami of abusive tweets after she endorsed U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas for the Republican presidential nomination.

"I love Ron Paul," she wrote on WhoSay.

"I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination . . . he's got my vote. Too bad he probably won't." Some Clarkson fans tweeted that Paul has been accused of holding racist and homophobic views. (He has denied the allegations.)

Clarkson, who voted for Barack Obama in '08, later wrote that she was shocked by some of the tweets. "I am really sorry if I have offended anyone," she wrote. "I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women's rights, men's rights, white/black/purple/orange rights." She added, "I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government. . . . That is all."
