Kelly Clarkson on Thursday was hit with a tsunami of abusive tweets after she endorsed U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas for the Republican presidential nomination.
"I love Ron Paul," she wrote on WhoSay.
"I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination . . . he's got my vote. Too bad he probably won't." Some Clarkson fans tweeted that Paul has been accused of holding racist and homophobic views. (He has denied the allegations.)
Clarkson, who voted for Barack Obama in '08, later wrote that she was shocked by some of the tweets. "I am really sorry if I have offended anyone," she wrote. "I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women's rights, men's rights, white/black/purple/orange rights." She added, "I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government. . . . That is all."

Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor has said that she dissolved her marriage to therapist Barry Herridge in two weeks because she didn't want to expose the "nice" guy to her messy life. On Thursday she elaborated: She suffers from depression and abuses serious drugs.
The "Nothing Compares 2 U" singer said things got bad on the couple's wedding night, when she took Barry along to troll for drugs.
"We ended up in a cab in some place that was quite dangerous," the singer tells Britain's The Sun. "I wasn't scared - but [Barry's] a drugs counselor. What was I thinking? Then I was handed a load of crack. Barry was very frightened - that kind of messed everything up a bit really."
She says she decided it would be unfair to expose Barry to her less than happy life.

London's Daily Mail has posted photos of hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, 54, having a romantic Caribbean getaway in St. Bart's with the lovely Aussie actor Melissa George, 35, the valiant hero who slew many a vampire in 30 Days of Night. What really sells the pics is the tabloid's poetry: "They laughed and joked their way past fellow beach-goers," the Mail writes of the couple, "and at one point George was seen tenderly kissing her new love's shoulder."
The couple were first spotted together in July, just a few weeks after Melissa's marriage to Claudio Dabed collapsed.
