SATURDAY afternoon I attended Kwanzaabration! at Audenreid High School in Southwest Philly. Music luminary Kenny Gamble and Oshunbumi Fernandez, director of Odunde365, created the event as a local nod to the seven-day holiday honoring African-American traditions. Kwanzaa began Dec. 26 and ends Wednesday.

Saturday's event was a festive one, as participants of all ages watched dance performances and did other activities highlighting the seven principles of African heritage on which Kwanzaa was founded, including Umoja, or unity.
