Blu-ray Video Treats

"Guardians of the Galaxy" (Marvel, 3D optional) and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3D" (Paramount) Amusing character development sets these sci-fi fantasies a cut above the usual slam-bam romps. The 3D is especially rewarding with "TMNT."

"Live Die Repeat" (Warner Bros) Reluctant action hero (played by Tom Cruise) is stuck in a very dark, world-threatening variation on "Groundhog Day." Video gamers will connect with the "instant replay" notion.

"Irving Berlin's White Christmas" (Paramount) You can come home again to this postwar musical, beautifully restored and chock full of special features - including a sing-along option and bonus CD with co-stars Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Danny Kaye and friends. (PBS's "American Masters" salute to Crosby replays Dec. 26. His rendering of "White Christmas" remains the biggest hit single of all time, with 100 million sales!)

Leonard Cohen, "Live in Dublin" (Sony Music) Still skipping across the stage (at 80!) and writing vital, poetic songs, the bon vivant is captured in high-def pictures and sound that detail his most excellent band. Blu-ray (or conventional DVD version) bundled with concert CDs.
