Rapper Lecrae visits Temple, talks manhood and mass incarceration

Grammy-award winning rapper  Lecrae isn't your average rapper.

The  37 year-old doesn't categorize himself as a  "Christian rapper" but he says  "faith informs his work." On his  seventh album Anomaly he tackles a variety of issues from love, sex and black empowerment. He manages to  straddle  the political and spiritual with equal fervor. The project  also made history. It  was the first time an artist had the No.1 album spot on the Gospel Albums and Billboard Top 200 list.

I spoke with him during his visit to  Temple University, last month, for a Free Thinkers interview with RECPhilly. We talked about mass incarceration, our perceptions of masculinity and how faith freed him.
