Pink working with UN to boost child fitness, wipe out malnutrition

Also in Tattle: Amy Schumer goes topless, Mary-Kate Olsen weds and more

Doylestown's own pop star Pink (a/k/a Alecia Moore) was named a UNICEF ambassador yesterday to help promote a new effort to encourage physical activity in young children in the United States and at the same time raise money for nutritional, vitamin-rich peanut paste to be delivered to malnourished children all over the world.

Just not delivered to kids who are allergic to peanuts.

When Pink was in Haiti, she got "to watch mommas learning how to feed it to their kids," she said during a phone interview from California. "And within a week, you can see the difference in these children. It brings them back to life. It's amazing."

Pink is the national spokeswoman for the UNICEF Kid Power Band, which is a child-friendly fitness band that encourages exercise through an interactive app. Kids can earn points by doing things like taking 12,000 steps a day or completing a goal. As the children earn points, UNICEF's partners, including Target, Disney and "Star Wars: Force for Change," will provide the funds needed to send the food packets to places like Haiti.

Pink, who has a 4-year-old daughter, Willow, with her husband, Carey Hart, said the trip to Haiti strengthened her passion for UNICEF's project. She visited Port-au-Prince this summer, where she saw children who came back from the brink of starvation because of these food packets.

"When you get to see it with your own eyes and you see that something works, then it's a lot easier to get behind and advocate for it and try to make other people aware of it," she said.

The Kid Power app also teaches children about the countries and cultures they are helping, and they can unlock special videos and messages and track their progress online.

"They found a brilliant way, and a fun way, to get kids here involved and empowered and motivated," Moore said. "And they are also turning them into global citizens and they get to be hands-on."

TATTBITS

* The 2016 Pirelli Calendar isn't just 12 monthly slices of cheesecake. The theme this year is power and accomplishment and subjects include Yoko Ono, Patti Smith, filmmaker Ava Duvernay, Fran Lebowitz, Serena Williams and Amy Schumer.

Schumer posed topless, her arm strategically placed over her top half. On Twitter, she described the photo, by Annie Leibovitz, as, "Beautiful, gross, strong, thin, fat, pretty, ugly, sexy, disgusting, flawless, woman."

In a video for the shoot, Schumer added, "I felt I looked more beautiful than I've ever felt in my life, and I felt like it looked like me."

* On Dec. 10, you can settle down on the couch and catch the regular Thursday fare on TV - "The Big Bang Theory," "The Mentalist" or "Bones." Or you can see a live musical a few blocks from Broadway.

Producers of the off-Broadway show "Daddy Long Legs" will allow audiences to see the full production online for free, at daddylonglegsmusical.com/livestream, broadcast from the Davenport Theater.

The show starts at 8 p.m. It will be rebroadcast at 8 p.m. Pacific time and at 8 p.m. Tokyo time.

The musical, about a romance that spans several years, features music and lyrics by Paul Gordon and a book by John Caird, who also directs. It stars actor Adam Halpin and Megan McGinnis, who are married in real life.

"Daddy Long Legs" is based on the 1912 Jean Webster novel, which was also the basis for the 1955 movie musical starring Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron. In the film, Leslie Caron (24 at the time) played an 18-year-old who was wooed by the 56-year-old Astaire.

* And that brings us to the wedding of Mary-Kate Olsen and her longtime boyfriend, Olivier Sarkozy. She's 29 but looks younger. He's 46 but looks older.

The former "Full House" star wed Friday. Sarkozy, the half brother of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, is a banker. Perfect, because actress-turned-designer Mary-Kate is crazy rich.

Bob Saget, Mary-Kate's "Full House" TV father, confirmed reports of the wedding during an appearance on the "Today" show yesterday.

"I was not invited, but I'm very happy and I sent a 'Mazel tov' text," Saget said. "I'm very happy. I love her very much. I hope they're happy."

A source told the New York Post's Page Six that the wedding reception was held at a private residence and featured "bowls and bowls filled with cigarettes, and everyone smoked the whole night."

Sounds disgusting.
