Details on Bruce Springsteen's Broadway show emerge, theater owners are 'a little nervous'

As Dan DeLuca reported last month, the Boss is expected to play eight weeks of shows at the Walter Kerr Theatre in midtown Manhattan beginning sometime in November. However, the nature of the shows had not yet been announced.

Now, a source tells the New York Post that Kerr Theatre owners Jujamcyn Theaters are "getting a little nervous" about the reported fall debut as Springsteen "seems to be in no rush to make his Broadway debut." The theater has passed on other plays to accommodate the Boss. Still, he has made some progress, the source says.

The show, the Post writes, will "reflect the intimacy of the Kerr," with Springsteen reading from best-selling memoir Born To Run. The Boss also reportedly plans to play songs in between reading passages from the book as a way to underscore certain stories. A backing band is a possibility, but will be limited in size if there is one, the source says.

Springsteen reportedly plans to host an eight-week run of five shows a week at the 975-seat Kerr. According to the Asbury Park Press, he was last sighted at the theater back in May.

The shows would be intimate ones for Springsteen, who typically plans marathon sets in arena settings (his longest on U.S. soil was played last year at Citizens Bank Park). The Kerr is on a much smaller scale, closer in size to World Cafe Live or the Theater of Living Arts.
