John Mayer, Ne-Yo, Demi Lovato, J. Cole among July 4 headliners

The city has tightened up its Welcome America festivities, condensing a festival once spread out over 10-12 days to seven.

John Mayer, Ne-Yo, Demi Lovato and J. Cole will join regular Philly hosts The Roots and others at the city's July 4th WaWa Welcome America! celebration, the city is announcing this morning.

The premier city-sponsored event on the Parkway will also include Philly's Welcome America regular Jill Scott plus Grace Potter and Ben Taylor (the son of James Taylor and Carly Simon who has carved his own musical career).

The city has tightened up its Welcome America festivities, condensing a festival once spread out over 10-12 days to seven.

This year the Taste of Philadelphia festival will not take place on July 4 but on the days following, July 5-7, and feature English singer-songwriter Marsha Ambrosius, formerly of Floetry.

The Roots introduce their guests on this VH-1 spot.
