The Scoop: Kermit's ice cream sandwiches
The deal: Kermit's Bake Shoppe opened last July, touting itself as the love child of a pizza joint and a bakery. Apparently, an ice-cream parlor is also in that family tree: The owners rolled out handmade ice-cream sandwiches this summer to accompany their pastries and pizzas.

Where: 2204 Washington Ave., in Point Breeze.
When: 8 a.m.-10 p.m. The sammies were originally slated as a seasonal item, but a staffer told the Daily News recently that booming sales have elevated the treats to full-time status.
What: The sandwiches are made from Kermit's sponge cake and cookies, which are wrapped around house-made ice cream. They come in four flavors: Fun (funfetti cake with honey-lavender ice cream and Fruity Pebbles), Car (carrot cake with cinnamon-vanilla ice cream and candied cornflakes), C.C. (chocolate-chip cookies with cafe au lait ice cream) and Ban (banana cake with chocolate-brownie ice cream and toasted walnuts).
We tried: Fun, which was, as the name would imply, a real joy to eat. The cake was light and airy, and paired well with its aromatic center.
Next time: We'll dig on the shop's pizza, which smelled amazing. People Paper Assistant City Editor David Lee Preston, a Kermit's regular, says the white mushroom pie is "outstanding."
Price: $3.75 per sandwich.
