Concept: The Farm Truck is known for its local ingredients, seasonal menu and creative flavors. Co-owner Kris Pepper, a Philadelphia University grad, said that most of the produce is from a West Philly farm. "A very small farm," he said. Their butcher also uses local meats.
Don't miss: Local ingredients are great, but the Farm Truck's pork taco is so delicious, we wouldn't care if the pigs were raised on Mars. The tacos (2 for $7; 3 for $10) include a refreshing sesame ginger slaw and pickled peppers atop moist, flavorful pork with a spicy mayo. These are among our favorite pork-based Philly food truck items - along with the Whirly Pig's Hog Roast Sandwich and Ka'Chi's pulled-pork sliders (with the pineapple- habanero sauce, of course).
What else: The Farm Truck's menu changes with the seasons, but when we caught up with it this week at 30th Street Station, other items were: Focaccia Turkey Club ($8) with local bacon, arugula and smoked paprika aioli; Mediterranean Veggie Pita ($7) with zucchini, portobello, hummus, feta, cucumber-onion salad and dill yogurt; and Buffalo Chicken Sliders (2 for $8), with goat cheese, celery and local organic chicken on a ciabatta bun. Previous items included blackened chicken with Carolina slaw, tofu tacos with pickled jalapeno-ginger slaw and hoisin sauce, and Alfredo mac'n' cheese with fresh parsley.
Where: They've been at The Porch at 30th Street Station, LOVE Park and elsewhere. They'll be packing it up for the winter soon, but look for them in the spring.
