After 80 years of management, the family behind a Bridgeport mainstay is stepping out from behind the bar.

The Chiccarine family announced on Facebook last week that it would no longer be the owners of Chick's, a popular restaurant on Route 23.

"The memories our family has had in Chicks are enough for two lifetimes and we owe them all to you," Dave and Carol Chiccarine wrote on the posting.

"While we are saddened this time has come, we are very excited to start new chapters in each of our lives."

Their last day as owners is yet to be determined, the family said. It is not clear if Chick's will remain open under new management, they said.

The business, a local watering hole famous for its mussels, opened in 1935 and has been in the hands of the Chiccarine family since then.
