In brief
High-flying fast-casual chain Honeygrow, which has opened four locations in three years, has hired chef David Katz as culinary director. Katz, chef-owner of the late Center City restaurant Meme, has been brought in not only to create menu items but also to ensure quality as Honeygrow expands beyond the Philadelphia region. The company plans to open four more locations this year alone: two in Delaware; one in Hoboken, N.J.; and another in University City.
Aug. 2 was the finale for Blue2O, an upscale-casual seafooder that opened in October 2008 on Route 70 at Haddonfield Road in Cherry Hill. The Chili's next door, under the same owners, remains.
Saturday is the finale under original owner Weaver Lilley for Friday Saturday Sunday. The Rittenhouse landmark, which opened in 1973, is due for a reboot next year under two Garces veterans, chef Chad Williams and his fiancee, Hanna Whitaker.
Aug. 22 will be the last night of service at Broad and Spruce Streets for Ruth's Chris, as the steak house is leaving its home of 27 years in the Atlantic Building for more spacious quarters at the Sonesta Hotel at 18th and Market Streets. The deal will thrust one of the city's longest-running steak houses from the Avenue of the Arts into the belly of the city's corporate scene.
