Pizzeria Felici (see what they did with the name?) is in the Elements Horsham at 303 Horsham Rd. (215-323-4530). Specialty is Neopolitan-style pizza cooked in a double-hearthed, wood-fired oven. Menu, designed by chef Jim Burke (ex-James), includes starters/antipasti, pastas, and entrees. Michael Brenfleck, last at La Calaca Feliz in Fairmount, is chef.
The 30-seat wine and beer bar is equipped with TVs. Canno Design went with an industrial look on the 80-seater, riffing on the traditional red-and-white checker motif in a distressed, varied print on the floor and mint-green accents. The main dining room is lighted with yellow, teal, and orange pendants and framed by large windows. There's a 30-seat private dining room.
Dinner is on daily from 4 p.m. Lunch will begin in late October.
José Andrés in Philly
José Andrés, the Spanish-born chef behind such trendsetting spots as minibar, Zaytinya, and Jaleo (and the guy credited with spreading the small-plates concept to American menus), has inked a deal to put a branch of his vegetable-focused concept Beefsteak on the University of Pennsylvania campus.
Beefsteak is expected to open in early 2016 at Houston Hall (3417 Spruce St.).
Beefsteak specializes in create-your-own bowls focused on vegetables. "This is what I love to do, and this is what America really needs," Andrés said by phone, referring to sharing his passion for vegetables. He said he was tired of menus where "vegetables look like an afterthought."
Patrons can build cooked-to-order combinations of flash-prepared vegetables, grains, sauces, and toppings. Salt-cured salmon, roast chicken, and poached egg are also offered.
Right. There's no beefsteak on the menu. The name, says its website, is meant as a "playful take on the power of vegetables."
Tacos in Fishtown
Fishtown is getting a taco shop. Thursday is the projected opening date for Heffe, a corner stand run by chef Peter McAndrews (Paesano's, Modo Mio, Bridgid's) and business partner Anthony Lolio in what was a longtime grocery store and takeout in a small lot at Frankford Avenue and Marlborough Street. Hours will be lunch and dinner Sunday to Thursday, and till 3 a.m. weekends.
Closings
PYT, opening a branch on Thursday in New York City, has closed after six years in the Piazza at Schmidts in Northern Liberties. The burger bar's owner, Tommy Up, plans to move his Philadelphia flagship next spring to a new building across from the Fillmore, the Live Nation entertainment venue nearby.
Supper (926 South St.) has ended its eight-year run. Mitch and Jennifer Prensky say they will focus on growing their other businesses - the new Scratch Biscuits at 1306 Chestnut St., as well as Global Dish Caterers and the corporate catering arm of Global Dish Inc.
