Fleming's puts wine list on iPads

The steakhouse chain get with technology.

Play "spin the bottle" at a steakhouse?

Steakhouse chain Fleming's Prime has joined the movement of upscale restaurants offering wine lists on iPads. (Locally, Tashan does it. Le Bec Fin customizes its dining room menu on iPads. I'm sure there are others.)

Fleming's WiNEPAD, available at all 65 locations (Radnor and Marlton locall) allows customers to search by varietal and region, as well as by wine ratings and food pairings. It also categorizes by mood, grouping wines by descriptors such as "Earthy & Complex" and "Fragrant & Fruity." The "Spin the Bottle" function is a randomizer that picks a different label off the wine list each time it's selected.

It was developed by Fleming's national wine director, Maeve Pesquera, and its national IT training coordinator, Craig Sheppard.

Tech and upper-end dining do mix. A New York Times piece from a few years ago says such devices tend to boost sales.
