With about 48,000 graves, the Burlington County cemetery is by far the largest military burial ground in the region.

Established in 1864 to inter the remains of soldiers killed in the Civil War, it encompasses 65 acres and is closed to new burials.

The Beverly staff also oversees:

* Philadelphia National Cemetery at Haines Street and Limekiln Pike, in West Oak Lane, which has 13,190 veterans' graves.

* A veterans' section of about 1,800 graves in Mount Moriah Cemetery, 62nd Street and Kingsessing Avenue in Kingsessing (stretching across the city line into Yeadon).

To accommodate the expanding veteran population and the need for burial sites, the Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration is building a military cemetery in Washington Crossing, Bucks County.
