The Philadelphia School District is recommending that one of the two school police officers accused of beating Frankford High School running back Jeffione Thomas be fired.

The Philadelphia School District is recommending that one of the two school police officers accused of beating Frankford High School running back Jeffione Thomas be fired.

The district is also recommending that disciplinary action be taken against the second officer involved in the alleged beating on Oct. 29.

Thomas, now 18, had said he was merely late for school when the officers tried to stop him from entering the school and go inside their truancy van. The district did not release the names of the officers.

In a statement released this afternoon, the district said:

"Based on the facts, eyewitness interviews and review of the videotape of the unfortunate incident involving Jeffione Thomas, a 10th-grade student at Frankford High School, and two School District of Philadelphia Police Officers, the School District recommends that the one school police officer involved in the use of excessive force be terminated."
