THE 18-YEAR-OLD woman who allegedly helped rob a couple at gunpoint in University City earlier this week before pleading with her accomplice not to rape one of their victims surrendered to police yesterday.

The woman and an 18-year-old man robbed a couple at gunpoint on 47th Street near Springfield Avenue about 10:30 Tuesday night, police said.

After the robbery, the young gunman forced the couple into a nearby alley where he allegedly raped the woman, a teacher, and forced her boyfriend to watch the assault at gunpoint.

Police said the female suspect, whom the victim's boyfriend initially thought was a teenage boy, pleaded with her accomplice to let the couple go after the two robbed them.

Police said the woman was arrested just before 5 p.m. after she spoke with police in the Special Victims Unit.

The suspects have not yet been identified, police said, because they are the subjects of additional criminal investigations.

The 18-year-old man is facing rape, robbery and aggravated-assault charges.

The woman was awaiting charges last night.
