On May 5, Gesu School hosted its Gesu Gala at the Bellevue at the Hyatt. The independent Catholic, Jesuit-modeled, pre-K through eighth grade school is recognized as a national model for inner-city education. More than 360 attended the gala and were entertained by the Gesu gospel choir and ballroom dancers. The evening included silent and live auctions and dinner. The Gesu Spirit Medal was presented to Peter G. Gould and the Rev. Stephen R. Thorne. The event raised $371,000 to be used to support educational programs in the school.
