Monday's Child: Shantell, 15, has a smile that lights up a room

Shantell is a sweet, appealing 15-year-old with a beautiful smile that her social worker says can light up a room, and an energy that cannot be ignored. Shantell loves to socialize and talk to people, especially about music. She also enjoys doing arts and crafts.

Shantell is a sweet, appealing 15-year-old with a beautiful smile that her social worker says can light up a room, and an energy that cannot be ignored. Shantell loves to socialize and talk to people, especially about music. She also enjoys doing arts and crafts.

Diagnosed with cerebral palsy, she uses a wheelchair. Daily exercises help increase her mobility. Shantell wants very much to be independent and is delighted when she can complete a task on her own. In the 10th grade, she loves school and thrives with the special-education services she receives. Reading and language arts are her favorite subjects.

If she could go anywhere, Shantell would like to travel the world and go camping in each state. Her idea of a perfect day would include sleeping in, camping with her foster family, and eating pizza.

Shantell loves to set goals for the future, including becoming a nurse, getting married, and having a family. A more immediate goal is to be adopted. She would like a family who would devote much attention to her. Shantell loves pets, especially dogs, and hopes there would be some in the home.

Shantell and other children are available for adoption. For information, contact Jason Monn at the National Adoption Center.
