Haddonfield High group gives Corzine award

Gov. Corzine received a humanitarian award yesterday from Students Taking Action Now: Darfur at Haddonfield Memorial High School for his support of ending genocide in Sudan.

"Raising awareness and prompting action regarding the atrocities committed in the Darfur region remains among my proudest accomplishments as a member of the United States Senate," Corzine said in accepting the award.

He congratulated the group for raising $3,000 to buy 100 solar cookers for Darfur refugees. Solar cookers enable refugees to cook without frequent firewood collection; gathering wood can expose women and girls to violence from the Janjaweed militia. Also, two solar cookers are estimated to save one ton of wood each year.
