Police last night were looking for the driver of a blue Buick that struck a Delaware River Port Authority police officer who was assisting a disabled motorist at the foot of the Walt Whitman Bridge on the Philadelphia side.

Witnesses said the Buick, a four-door sedan bearing a New Jersey license plate, struck the officer in the westbound lanes just beyond the toll plaza at 8:47 p.m., according to DRPA spokesman John Miller.

Miller said that the unidentified officer was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and that his injuries were non-life threatening and involved mostly scrapes and bruises. - Jacqueline L. Urgo
