New day-care center for seniors to open in East Oak Lane
Penn Asian Senior Services will provide health care, activities and hot lunches in new facility.
SENIORS WHO are homebound but wish to be surrounded by new friends and activities have something to look forward to.
Penn Asian Senior Services, an agency that trains and provides home health aides, is expected to soon open a new adult day-care center on Old York Road in East Oak Lane, near the Montgomery County border.
"Who wants to stay at home? No one," Im Ja Choi, the agency's executive director, said yesterday.
PASSi, as her agency is called, moved from Jenkintown to Philadelphia, on Old York Road, near 70th Avenue, in December. The office and training area occupy the building's first floor. The new day-care facility will be on the second floor. Choi said she hopes to open it in March.
The center is for people who are eligible for home health care. But instead of staying home, people would be transported to the center, which will open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Breakfast, a hot Asian meal for lunch and a snack will be provided, Choi said. There will also be light physical activities, games, music therapy, arts and crafts, and an outside garden for people to plant vegetables.
People "can socialize instead of be isolated in their home," she said. Nurses will be on staff to provide basic health care. The agency has staff who can serve people in 10 different Asian languages. While it primarily caters to Asian immigrants, the agency also serves non-Asian clients.
