A 26-year-old Camden man was sentenced Thursday to 57 months in prison for beating a man unconscious near Independence Hall in 2012, federal prosecutors said.

Baldwin Centeno and his uncle Santos Centeno, 47, were convicted in federal court in Philadelphia last year of the attack on a 35-year-old man who approached them for help because he could not find his car.

A park ranger found the victim lying near a curb on Fourth Street between Chestnut and Walnut Streets.

The victim suffered traumatic brain injuries and facial fractures during the June 16, 2012, assault. He has no memory of the event.

The pair also were charged with beating and robbing a couple four days later in the same area. Baldwin Centeno was acquitted on charges related to the second assault. His uncle was convicted of both attacks.

Santos Centeno is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

U.S. District Judge Juan R. Sánchez also sentenced Baldwin Centeno to three years of supervised release and ordered him to pay $6,000 restitution, an $8,000 fine, and a $200 special assessment.
