An elderly woman was found dead Tuesday outside of a burning vehicle near a walking trail at Valley Forge National Historic Park.

A police officer patrolling the park found the burning car near the Betzwood picnic area around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, according to news release from Lower Providence police. As firefighters were putting out the blaze, they discovered the woman's body on the ground next to the car.

The police department said the fire was accidental, and there was no "indication of foul play or criminal activity." Chief Francis L. Carroll said they had also ruled out suicide.

A preliminary autopsy pointed to carbon monoxide poisoning and smoke inhalation, according to the county coroner. Authorities were still working to identify the victim Wednesday.
