A man suspected of assaults on four women - including a rape - near the University of Pennsylvania was arrested Thursday evening while attacking a woman, police said.

Philadelphia police arrested the man about 6:35 p.m. around 41st and Pine Streets during the assault, Penn police said.

Maureen S. Rush, vice president for public safety at Penn, said that campus police were able to obtain a good image of the suspect from video surveillance and that the image had been distributed to area police earlier Thursday.

Attacks were reported on Saturday and Monday, and then two were reported within 10 minutes of each other late Thursday morning, Penn police said.

Rush said the two victims Thursday morning were Drexel University students. A woman in a Penn post-doctoral program and a graduate student were also attacked. Rush said she did not know whether the rape victim was a student. - Robert Moran
