Weldon to donate his archives

WEST CHESTER Former U.S. Rep. Curt Weldon is to contribute his congressional archive to West Chester University on Monday, the school announced.

The ceremony is set for 7 p.m. at the Philips Autograph Library in the Philips Memorial Building on South High Street.

"A gift of this nature is unprecedented," university president Greg R. Weisenstein said in a statement. "This collection will provide university faculty and students, as well as scholars from [the United States] and around the world, with access to information not previously available from this remarkable time in American and world history."

Expected to be among the collection of papers and documents are letters from heads of state, reports, photographs, and memoranda.

Weldon, a Republican and a graduate of West Chester, served in the House from 1987 to 2007.

"When considering the placement of these archives, I could only entrust them to an institution that would cultivate and keep the history alive," Weldon said in a statement. - Inquirer staff
