Montco pediatrician in child porn case dies in county jail

A Montgomery County pediatrician arrested last month on child pornography charges died in the county prison on Sunday, authorities said.

A Montgomery County pediatrician arrested last month on child pornography charges died in the county prison on Sunday, authorities said.

David Kennedy, 48, of Pennsburg, had been jailed on $250,000 bail after his Nov. 28 arrest.

Officials did not say how Kennedy died or where in the prison he was found. An investigation is ongoing.

"Montgomery County detectives are investigating, as they would any death in the prison," Kate Delano, a spokeswoman for District Attorney Kevin R. Steele, said Monday.

Kennedy was the owner and supervising physician of Personal Care Pediatrics on Main Street in Pennsburg.

His arrest came after a nurse-practitioner who was assigned to take after-hours calls during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend found sexually graphic photos of children on the phone Kennedy gave her to take the calls, according to a criminal affidavit filed in the case.

Detectives said Kennedy told them that he bought the iPhone and connected it to his Apple iCloud account, but did not know that his photos from iCloud would be connected to the new phone. He allegedly admitted to visiting websites with child pornography and saving some images.

The images were not related to any children that had visited Kennedy's medical practice, Delano said at the time of his arrest.

Kennedy's lawyer did not return a message left Monday afternoon.

He was charged with criminal use of a communication facility and five counts of possessing child pornography. Kennedy was to face a Jan. 31 preliminary hearing on the charges.
