After a week of attention to the walls of Rittenhouse Square - on which sitting was briefly and controversially banned by city officials - the park faced a threat Saturday night not from tired behinds but something else: a car.
A white sedan crashed into the popular park in one of Center City's toniest neighborhoods around 10 p.m., appearing to mangle a wrought-iron fence and hedge at the 18th Street entrance.
Two people in the car, which had a New Jersey license plate, were removed and treated by medics, according to the initial BNN report.
A video posted by a spectator on Instagram around 11 p.m. showed a tow truck beginning to remove the car.
Last week, city officials removed "no sitting" signs from the walls after a public outcry.
