The woman whose body was found buried in a back yard in Frankford last week has been identified by police as Kelly Hepft, 39, of Frankford Avenue near Solly.
Police were called to the scene about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday by a witness who said he saw toes sticking out of a shallow grave in the back yard.
Officers exhumed Hepft's body, which was wrapped in black plastic bags. The Medical Examiner's Office ruled the cause of death as multiple stab wounds to the head, neck and chest, police said.
A man was arrested in connection with the case, but charges had not been filed. Police said that the investigation remains ongoing and that a motive remained unknown.
