Housekeeper stabbed with box cutter at North Philly motel; suspect arrested

A woman was stabbed with a box cutter during an altercation at the Liberty Motel in North Philadelphia early Saturday.

A woman was stabbed with a box cutter during an altercation at the Liberty Motel in North Philadelphia early Saturday.

The 52-year-old victim was working as a housekeeper at the motel at 3256 Germantown Ave. when she became involved in a verbal dispute with another woman shortly after 3 a.m., police said.

As the two argued, the unknown woman allegedly pulled out a silver box cutter and slashed the housekeeper across the left side of her neck, opening a large cut.

Still brandishing the box cutter, the woman chased the housekeeper around the motel lobby before running out the front door, police said. Responding officers later saw her walking north along Germantown Avenue and took her into custody without incident.

Police did not release the name of the 50-year-old suspect because she had not yet been processed and formally charged Saturday afternoon.

The victim was listed in stable condition at Temple University Hospital.
