Man arrested after allegedly firing off 15 to 20 rounds in North Philly

A gunman allegedly sprayed a North Philadelphia block with bullets Wednesday afternoon and struck a house several times, but no injuries were immediately reported to police.

A gunman allegedly sprayed a North Philadelphia block with bullets Wednesday afternoon and struck a house several times, but no injuries were immediately reported to police.

Highway Patrol officers were in the area of a reported shooting shortly before 2 p.m., police said. Reports initially indicated more than 10 shots fired, according to dispatchers on police radio.

An officer arrived, saw the gunman, and had him in custody in the 2800 block of North 20th Street within seconds, according to the radio reports.

The officer then indicated 15 to 20 shell casings were on the street and an automatic weapon was recovered.

A police spokeswoman said the officer "sees the guy and got him down pretty quickly." She added that a house was struck by gunfire, but no injuries were immediately reported.
