Rambo, RoboCop, Email banned as baby names in Mexico
Dozens of others, actually used by parents, are on new no-no list.
Strange but real baby names have inspired authorities in Sonora, Mexico, to ban 61 choices.
Verboten, as of Monday, are Scrotum, Rambo, Circumcision, USNavy, Panties, Hitler, Burger King, Virgin, Rolling Stone, Robocop, Email, Facebook, Twitter, and Christmas Day, according Reuters and the Associated Press.
It's a long-range preventive measure so kids don't get bullied in school, an official explained.
Unclear is how bullied a child might get for being named Harry Potter, James Bond or Lady Di, which were also banned.
Justin Bieber and Bruce Jenner, or any of the Seven Dwarfs, we could understand.
Also unclear is why anyone would think bullies can't mock any John, Dick or Harry.
Checking of future name choices in Mexico could expand the list.
Perhaps they might want to also check lists in the United States, where parents picked the likes of Blip, Wrigley, Fairy, Cheese, Hurricane, Legend, Miggy, Tintin and Panda last year, according to babycenter.com.
Also worthy of consideration: celebrity baby names like Moon Unit, Dweezel, Northwest, Rumor, Rainbow Aurora, Kal-El, Pilot Inspektor, Bronx Mowgli, and Moxie Crimefighters.
Or maybe officials would be smart to take a more hands-off approach.
