Southwest Philly water main break affects 50 homes

An 8-inch water main break in Southwest Philadelphia Monday night left more than 50 homes without service, officials said.

The break, which occurred on the 7600 block of Elmwood Avenue in Eastwick, was first reported around 5:30 p.m., according to Laura Copeland, Philadelphia Water Department spokeswoman.

Copeland said the street was closed to traffic "Due to street buckling."

Crews are working to remedy the issue, Copeland added.
