West Chester School Board must fill yet another vacancy

For the second time in three months, the West Chester Area School Board will seek to fill a vacancy.

Paul Brockett, elected to a two-year term in 2003 and re-elected to a four-year term in 2005, submitted his resignation on April 30. It will be effective on May 4.

Brockett and his family are moving to North Carolina, forcing his resignation. The board has 30 days from May 4 to fill the vacancy.

Board president Rogers W. Vaughn indicated that the board would most likely select Brockett's replacement from the pool of candidates on the ballot in the upcoming May 15 primaries.

The candidates are Jim Davison, Susan J. Carty, and Deborah L. Liczwek - all cross-filed in both parties, and John J. Trevisani, who filed solely as a Democrat.

Brockett's replacement will serve until December, and the seat will be up for election this fall, with the winner in November serving the remaining two years of Brockett's term.

All four candidates vied for the opening created when former board member Joseph P. Green Jr. resigned in February. That vacancy was filled by Ricky L. Swalm.
