Phoenixville schools will hold relay walk to help fight cancer

The Phoenixville Area School District will once again band together to benefit cancer patients with its fourth annual Relay for Life on May 11 and 12.

The 24-hour relay has raised more than $1 million in its first three years, including more than $380,500 last year that went to the American Cancer Society.

Held at Washington Field, the football stadium at Phoenixville Area High School, the relay will take place from 6 p.m on May 11 until 6 p.m. on May 12. Local bands, food stands, and face-painting will be part of the entertainment scheduled for the thousands who will come out, many spending the night under the stars as relay teams continue to walk the track.

"Cancer doesn't quit, so we can't either," said Nan Odenthal, community relations coordinator for the school district.

Phoenixville Area High School is located at 1200 Gay Street in Phoenixville. For more information, contact Odenthal at 484-927-5242.
