Police seek vandals terrorizing motorists

Capt. Winton Singletary says one woman had rocks and a fire extinguisher dropped on her car as she drove under a trestle on Upsal Street on Dec. 10.

Capt. Winton Singletary says one woman had rocks and a fire extinguisher dropped on her car as she drove under a trestle on Upsal Street on Dec. 10.

Police say several similar incidents have happened at that location, and rocks also have been thrown at cars from a trestle on East Washington Lane.

Police believe the vandals are youngsters, but Singletary says this goes way beyond child's play.

He says the incident with the fire extinguisher is considered aggravated assault because the rocks caved in the woman's car roof. "If she had a sun roof," he says, "she could have been killed."
