Frankford High in lockdown for gun incident

Frankford High School was locked down this morning while school police searched for a male student who had brought an unloaded handgun to school in a bookbag.

The 17-year-old eleventh grader bolted down a hallway after school police manning the X-ray machine spotted the weapon in his bookbag at approximately 8:15 a.m. Fernando Gallard said the lockdown was lifted at 9:30 when it became clear the student was not in the building.

City police were searching for the student in the neighborhood. Gallard said the student will be charged with bringing a weapon to school, immediately suspended and scheduled for an expulsion hearing.

This is the second gun found by X-ray machines in a city school in five days. Strawberry Mansion High School was placed in a lockdown last Thursday after school police found a gun in a bookbag there.
