Water-main break closes exit on Rte. 42

A water-main break that snarled traffic in Deptford yesterday has also closed an exit on Route 42.

The southbound off-ramp for Route 544 is closed until further notice, the New Jersey Department of Transportation reports.

Until the ramp reopens, Traffic.com suggests using Exit 58 on Route 55 as an alternate.

The break occurred near Deptford Mall yesterday morning on Clements Bridge Road between Almonesson Road and State Highway 41, according to Gloucester County dispatch.

A section of Clements Bridge Road had to be shut down and will remain closed for the rest of the week.

Service was restored to customers - all of which were businesses - with a temporary fix at about 10 p.m., said a Deptford Township Municipal Utilities Authority official.

The department will return later in the week to repair the problem, which involves a 35-year-old main.
